Chevron Desk for "Made It Monday"

So I have to say I have the best fiance in the world! Creston helped me so much in my classroom today and I don't know how any of these projects would have come together without him.

For "Made It Monday" we did a desk makeover. I was so fortunate that the new school I moved to had a desk I could use, and that I was also allowed to spice it up! I originally thought of painting it.. but this would take more than one can of spray paint so I wasn't feelin it. I thought of a much more labor intensive project.. Let's wallpaper it! LOL Poor Creston...

This is the "BEFORE" of the desk. It had some contact paper on the sides that was a wood look, so I pulled that off and sanded it down a bit to prep for the project.

Here's Creston being a total trooper and putting wallpaper on this desk! This adorable chevron print was in the paint section at Walmart. It caught my eye when I got the turquoise paint for my last "Monday Made It".

Here's the finished product!!! How adorable is this?? I thought about painting the top and sides white.. but I'm kinda diggin the dark wood look with it. Also.. I really don't want to paint :)

Some other things I picked up for the classroom is matching chevron shelf liner that I've put in the white bookcases. I'll need to take a picture next time I'm in the room. The shelf liner goes fast so I ended up buying 5 rolls of it.. lets hope it holds up! I also picked up a cube shelf organizer and LOVE IT!! I got 2 turquoise boxes like shown in the picture and two gray ones that have a print. I also thought the "weathered" finish made it look more like a homey piece of furniture.

I like it so much that I may go back for a four shelf single level organizer. I'm thinking this could work really well in front of the smartboard. That space below the smartboard has always been empty and blank for me because what can you really fit there? This too cute perfect height bookshelf of course! I know I can always use more storage.

I'll be back in the room tomorrow to get some more things together! All of this decorating is taking my mind off of what's to come... pacing and lesson planning.. DUN DUN DUNNNN!

Monday Made It

My very first "Monday Made It"!

In preparation for my new classroom I've been on the hunt for cute accent pieces to add a home-y touch. I'm doing a new color scheme and moving away from my owl theme. I had a field day at the school supply store last week and came home with oodles of yellow, gray, and turquoise chevron border. I can't wait to decorate with my new colors! However my OCD self wants everything to match and that means I've got lots of orange, light blue, and green decor I need to update.

Well, I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to realize the power of spray paint.. but WOW! I've got a can of "seaside gloss" and I'm not afraid to use it!

So here's my "made it" and it's a pretty simple one. I found this lovely plant stand in the trash, someone probably thinking "oh it's rusted, it's no good"... think again! I sanded that sucker down and got out my magic weapon.

Now turquoise furniture is not a popular find these days, so if you have a wild color in your classroom then I highly suggest the spray paint! I can't wait to find some more things laying around that I can transform :)

Thanks for stopping by, keep crafting!

Woohoo! Got to see my room!

I had a chance after some professional development today to see my classroom! This is going to be a short post because I just want to share the "before" pictures :)

Ok so this is what I'm working with! The walls are going to be painted all yellow (yay!) and the floors will be cleaned, then I can move in! I'm so excited to map out the room. I'm loving the tile floors and large deep set windows!! Also lots of outlets- a must!

Ok I'm off to make a blueprint of the room! #nerdstatus

All I do is plan, plan, plan no matter what

Sing that title to the tune of "All I do is win" and you'll feel like planning is what all the cool kids rap about.

So I didn't get a chance to do any blog hopping scavenger hunt pics today.. Although my fiancĂ© is working night shift so maybe I can cross the "cop eating a donut" off the list ;) Instead I've started doing some pacing guide planning and also uploaded my first two products on TpT!

The Teachers Pay Teachers products I've got up so far are a number of the day activity and a back to school QR scavenger hunt! I'm thinking of taking the number of the day and making several versions, in order to have it progress in complexity as we cover new units.
The QR scavenger hunt is something I've been wanting to make for a while! I can't wait to try it out the first week of school :)

You can check out my TpT store here:

As far as planning goes, I have a lot of work ahead of me!!

I used some planning sheets from Ashleigh's Education Journey, the same person I purchased my math units from. I did a breakdown of the year for math and science, and then started planning the first science unit.

Well, it may be time for a donut break! Thanks for stopping by,

#bloghoppin2015 Scavenger Hunt

I have had so much fun today with the #bloghoppin2015 scavenger hunt! It just started today and already so many people are uploading pictures with the hashtag! I was on Bloglovin' and reading up on recent posts over the weekend and I saw Blog Hoppin' is doing a scavenger hunt! It goes until the end of July and there's a list of items to find. If you can get 90 points you're entered to win an Ipad, monogrammed case, and $100 Itunes gift card. Not to mention, it's so fun!

To play, you need to have an instagram account. I have a personal instagram account but to do the scavenger hunt you need to have your account set to public, so I made a classroom account "The_Rockin_Rowlands If you have an instagram account follow me! I've started with following the teachers that are a part of blog hoppin' but I would love to follow some more great teachers!

Here's a few of the items I was able to cross of the list today with the help of my family and my sister's friends. It was quite convenient that my parents have odd items like stilts laying around...

I hope you join the fun and do the #bloghoppin2015 scavenger hunt! I can't wait to cross a few more items off tomorrow :)

Adios,

Binder Heaven

Well I'm going to give this blog world another go! I started out blogging two years ago with a 2nd grade blog and made maybe 3 posts. It was sad. I'm excited to start up again though as I start a new grade, at a new school, with a new name! There's lots of exciting things going on in my life right now and all of the enthusiasm has me knocking out projects left and right.

This post will be short and sweet, as I'm still learning how to set things up and get my blog out there.
I do want to share all of the binders I've made. I'm in binder heaven! Who doesn't love a good binder? It holds so much promise of organization.. let's just hope I keep it up :)

I've made a binder for each math unit I'll be teaching this year. The math units are from Ashleigh's Education Journey and also the RTI resources, test prep, and journal prompts! I went a little wild at her TpT store, and absolutely love the products. You can view her TpT store here.

I'm also very excited about my "ULTIMATE TEACHER BINDER" bundle that I bought and made into my huge plan book. This product has everything you could possibly think of for a plan book! Calendars, weekly plan pages, classroom resources such as class list, birthdays, medical info, etc. and even an adorable section for meeting notes! Now I have no excuse.. I must take meeting notes. I'm very excited to use this binder and have everything in one place. I also love how it's editable so I can make it my own and personalize it to my needs. When you purchase it you get free updates each year with the new calendars. Check out this product here.

So I'm returning to binder heaven to see what else I need before I get into the nitty gritty of planning for the units! I'll need some science binders too, but since each unit is only a month I may just do one large binder with 6 tabs for each unit.. we'll see :)

Thanks for stopping by!
