Five for Friday

I'm here linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday! It's been a great week in 3rd grade and here's some of our highlights.

Mrs. Frizzle here! This month is reading month at my school and I loved dressing up for book character day!

Our class pet, Stubs, helped complete the look!

EOGs are quickly approaching, so we've been practicing word problem strategies in my room. We have been using RUCAS to approach problems. The kids love it!

Read the problem
Underline the question
Circle the numbers
Action plan
Solve!

Here's some student samples. Super proud teacher here!

While spiral reviewing and working on word problems, we've also been going back over elapsed time. I just ordered these nifty clocks and I'm loving the number line underneath, and the fact that their dry erase! The number line also has it split into fourths, for 15 minutes at each line. This was a great class discussion since we just finished our fractions unit.

We can't forget our quick mental math talks! With so much going on I neglected our number talks the past week, so yesterday we talked about friendly numbers and decomposing to make friendly numbers. What's pretty cool is that students could say an answer within seconds, but this is what they explained happened in their brain!

Last but not least, our little farm has been doing well! We're looking to build a barn for the goats and chickens, so I hit up my Facebook friends to see who's interested in soap and eggs! I'll be mailing some soap this weekend. I can't wait to share it and put our barn plans into motion :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend and relaxes. Spring break is on the horizon!

Rock on,

Diana

Five for Friday

Well it's been a few Friday's since my last post! I'm getting back into the swing of things :) I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday. Here's some fun things from our week-

We recently finished our unit on Force and Motion and what better way to reflect on our learning than with some gravity art! We filled pippettes with watered down paint and let gravity do the work that a paint brush normally would. Students tilted their canvas in different directions to let the paint drip down. It was a blast!

I saw this teacher workout on facebook and I'm pretty sure I'll be super fit by summer haha!

This week I introduced the app "Show me" available on the Ipad. It's a digital white board, but also has a voice recording feature so the kiddos get to be the teacher! They taught a lesson on parallel lines and intersecting lines.

February is reading month at my school! The month has been packed with fun activities, and one of those was a door decorating contest. Judging was today, so we'll hear about that soon! We made paper airplanes filled with reasons we love reading. They accompanied the teacher monster :)

Here's our display!

I save a farm update for last, so here's a super cute valentine I saw that was just perfect for my hubby!

Be sure to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching and share your 5 highlights from the week! Everyone enjoy their weekend!

Rock on,
