Five for Friday with Freebie!

It's finally FRIDAY!!! AHHHH I've been looking forward to this day all week. I know you shouldn't live for Friday, but hey, I really need a nap so that's my plan right after school :)

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share all of the fun things we've been up to this week.

SEAT POUCHES!!!!!!!!!

NOT JUST ANY SEAT POUCHES........

SEAT POUCHES THAT MATCH OUR COLORS!!!!!!!!

Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about things matching. These adorable seat pouches were made by my cousin who is an amazing seamstress as a wedding gift. BEST GIFT EVER!

This week we're working on perimeter and had a fun time building pens for our favorite animals! The kiddos got really into this, and then we beefed it up by changing the shapes with the same perimeter. I just love their adorable drawings too.

This one ALMOST made me want a pet mouse :)

A turtle, butterfly, and snake living in blissful harmony! In a 6x6 pen LOL

With spring break on the horizon we've been doing a little more of reviewing rules and being plain nice. It can't hurt to be plain nice :) So it made my heart happy to see this sticky on our "class shout out wall" <3

We've been learning all about the solar system!! I posted last week a picture of me dressed as Mrs. Frizzle for a character day- check it out here! I loved chanelling my inner Mrs. Frizzle and we took a trip to outer space to visit the inner planets and the gas giants. It was pretty convenient that the planets were right on my dress for a reference :)

We're currently working on solar system projects where each child is presenting a planet with a model for the class. Check out the freebie project here, rubric included! I can't wait for presentations next week. My students have been so excited and coming in sharing new facts they learned from their research. I love their enthusiasm!

Farm update! Nothing too much going on with my fur babies and feathered friends. We're hoping one of our does is pregnant, which means adorable baby goat pictures to come in June! Since she may be, I've been trying to use natural things to clean and reduce chemicals and processed things in their diet and environment. I couldn't have made this natural cleaner without the help of my healthy students! Several of my kiddos graciously donated their orange peels to me, which I put in a jar with vinegar. In two weeks I'll strain it and dilute it with water for a natural all purpose cleaner with a citrus scent! This will be perfect to use in the goat area, in the coop, in the house, and I promised to clean the desks with it so my students could see it in action! One kiddo called me a hippie this week.. I loved it.

That's all folks!

Five for Friday

I'm here linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday! It's been a great week in 3rd grade and here's some of our highlights.

Mrs. Frizzle here! This month is reading month at my school and I loved dressing up for book character day!

Our class pet, Stubs, helped complete the look!

EOGs are quickly approaching, so we've been practicing word problem strategies in my room. We have been using RUCAS to approach problems. The kids love it!

Read the problem
Underline the question
Circle the numbers
Action plan
Solve!

Here's some student samples. Super proud teacher here!

While spiral reviewing and working on word problems, we've also been going back over elapsed time. I just ordered these nifty clocks and I'm loving the number line underneath, and the fact that their dry erase! The number line also has it split into fourths, for 15 minutes at each line. This was a great class discussion since we just finished our fractions unit.

We can't forget our quick mental math talks! With so much going on I neglected our number talks the past week, so yesterday we talked about friendly numbers and decomposing to make friendly numbers. What's pretty cool is that students could say an answer within seconds, but this is what they explained happened in their brain!

Last but not least, our little farm has been doing well! We're looking to build a barn for the goats and chickens, so I hit up my Facebook friends to see who's interested in soap and eggs! I'll be mailing some soap this weekend. I can't wait to share it and put our barn plans into motion :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend and relaxes. Spring break is on the horizon!

Rock on,

Diana

Five for Friday

Well it's been a few Friday's since my last post! I'm getting back into the swing of things :) I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday. Here's some fun things from our week-

We recently finished our unit on Force and Motion and what better way to reflect on our learning than with some gravity art! We filled pippettes with watered down paint and let gravity do the work that a paint brush normally would. Students tilted their canvas in different directions to let the paint drip down. It was a blast!

I saw this teacher workout on facebook and I'm pretty sure I'll be super fit by summer haha!

This week I introduced the app "Show me" available on the Ipad. It's a digital white board, but also has a voice recording feature so the kiddos get to be the teacher! They taught a lesson on parallel lines and intersecting lines.

February is reading month at my school! The month has been packed with fun activities, and one of those was a door decorating contest. Judging was today, so we'll hear about that soon! We made paper airplanes filled with reasons we love reading. They accompanied the teacher monster :)

Here's our display!

I save a farm update for last, so here's a super cute valentine I saw that was just perfect for my hubby!

Be sure to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching and share your 5 highlights from the week! Everyone enjoy their weekend!

Rock on,

Five for Friday

It's been a short little week for us, but a great one! I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching again for Five for Friday. Here's the top 5 moments from the week!

I gave my laminator a workout! This is the first year I've done a classroom economy and what I didn't count on is my students saving all of their money! They are saving it for something big- like a class party for $2,000! So I'm just gonna laminate 100s like a boss hehe

We turned our whiteboard into an interactive number line! It's just taped up there and I use clothes pins to clip up different fractions. The kiddos had a lot of fun with it!

We've been working a lot with fractions on a number line which led me to make these sets of worksheets and activities. I opened with a number line being like a path, and of course, we're running to ice cream at the end of the line! This led to a lot of fun word problems and we've been rocking the number line :) You can check it out here!

With snow in the forecast everyone is rushing to buy milk. Meanwhile, I used up a gallon to make cheese! I have so much goat milk in the freezer I could survive being snowed in a while I think :)

The TPT "Stay Inspired" sale is still going on and my store is all 20%off! It's time for me to move everything I have sitting in my wish list over to my cart!! You can check out my sale here!

We're gonna have a snow day!!!!!! I feel five but I'm so excited! Yep, freezing rain is even just a little exciting. Snow showers Saturday though! Just hope my police hubby will be safe working!

Hope everyone has a safe and snowy weekend!
